About Rae

Welcome to my blog.

I don’t burn bright, I burn slow, and no, I am not placing negative words over me. Success in this world is often viewed as someone who has celebrity status. I don’t want or need that. This blog is about the peace in accepting imperfection and my thoughts and reflections as I navigate life.

I have withdrawn to the mists of Achill Island, Co. Mayo. In the winter of 2024, I decided to leave lovely West Cork for the winter. Thus, I rented a caravan with the intention of staying for three months. I needed time out to contemplate and reflect. Moreover, 2024 was a rather challenging year as I lost several good friends who passed away. I had had enough of not loving myself enough by allowing myself to become tame.

I love the island so much that I am still here today. I appreciate the raw ruggedness the island offers, but I also welcome the feeling that I am away from the loud chatterings of the world.

So who am I? I am a comic artist and teller of tales with a nomadic spirit. I find inspiration in the landscape, the Irish language, folklore, and the currency of my life is my faith.

The name VirtuallyRae came when I was at University College Cork studying for a Master’s in Digital Arts in the Humanities. At that time, the whole virtual world phased me out and my signature phrase of the time always included the word virtually. Hence, I thought rather tongue and cheekily I would shorten it to VR and use it as my blog title. After all, isn’t everything really a story?

I offer no particular answers to anything.

I now invite you to one of my videos on my YouTube channel.
